YELLOW6

BIOGRAPHY

These things have to be done but I hate writing them (and I think it shows)… here’s a couple of attempts and a new one to reflect the arrival of Ally on vocals will appear soon…

yellow6 is the solo project of jon attwood, a guitarist based in leicestershire, uk.   early musical excursions were in punk bands in the early 80s in London…since 1995 he has been making home recordings, initially guitar drones slowly evolving to more structured melodic music including samples, programmed beats, reverb and a large improvisational element.

the first record, a 7" single, was released by enraptured records in late 1998. since then, along with a transition from 4 track to PC based digital recording, further recordings have been released by labels including bearos, atomic, ochre, jonathon whiskey, rocket racer, awkward silence.  the mini-lp 'icanhearthemusicallaroundme' gained yellow6 their first airplay from radio 1's john peel and tracks went on to be used in film and TV productions.

the dawn of 2000 saw yellow6 venture into the live arena, initially as a bass/drums/guitar 3 piece and later utilising drum machines and samples along with bass and guitars.  recent live appearances have been solo (as on the cd live@ochre7, the debut solo gig)

yellow6 has completed a number of remixes for portal, glider, tristeza, slipstream, amp and an album of remixes of yellow6 has recently been released (remixed by portal, innerise, bauri, maps&diagrams, galena, rothko, ::lackluster::, landing, phobos3 and amp)… the fourth album, disappear here, was released in early 2003 on the Make mine Music label, founded with other like-minded artists (portal, epic45, avrocar…) and was supported with a short US west coast tour.  collaborations are ongoing with bauri and millimetrik

 the old one…

yellow6 began in 1995 as the solo recording project of jon attwood, a guitarist based in leicestershire, uk. early recordings consisted of guitar drone, slowly evolving to more structured melodic music including samples and drum machine rhythms but still with a large improvisational element. the first record, a 7" single, was released by enraptured records in late 1998. during 1999, along with a transition from 4 track to digital recording, further recordings were released by bearos, atomic and ochre. the mini-lp 'icanhearthemusicallaroundme' gained yellow6 their first airplay from radio 1's john peel and tracks went on to be used in film and TV productions. the dawn of 2000 saw yellow6 venture into the live arena, initially as a bass/drums/guitar 3 piece and later utilising drum machines and samples along with bass and guitars. further releases appeared during 2000 including the late summer release of the debut album 'overtone' which gained yellow6 more airplay both in the uk and abroad. a 70 minute cd-ep and a second, mail order only, album were released in late 2000 / early 2001 to critical acclaim and more airplay. towards the end of 2001, the third yellow6 album was released by UK label ochre records. titled 'lake:desert', it is an 11 track 70 minute cd featuring tracks recorded during the first half of 2001. these recordings move further into the field of utilising the digital studio as an instrument and include more elements of looping and cut and paste techniques along with the semi-improvised guitar work of previous releases. the future will see yellow6 making further live appearances, an album of remixes for early 2002 and remix work appearing on albums by portal, tristeza and glider…
