NEWS

09 August 2008…

some news….

If you’re interested in learning a little more about what goes on in my head, and I fully understand if you might not want to J, you can read a couple of new interviews… one for old friends DSO and the other for newcomer Crumbs In The Butter

make sure you check out the rest of their sites while you’re there – DSO has a huge archive of live/album reviews and interviews, and CITB has got off to a good start with Winterlight and Distant Noise features…

in other news, I will be playing live in Leeds on Saturday 19th October at the Brudenell Social Club on the Forest of Sound stage at the Brainwash festival (not to be confused with Brainwaves in Boston!)

in release news, a track from the recent (sold out) Distant Noise CD, STHLM, will be on the forthcoming Symbolic Interaction double CD ‘The Silence Was Warm Vol.2’ out around September.  Check out their site and other fine releases.

That’s all for now… enjoy the summer

08 June 2008…

it's been a lovely sunny day in this neck of the woods, almost like a proper summer day... so i'm sitting inside writing this to inform you of a new release from the people at Distant Noise records.  If you like When The Leaves Fall Like Snow, then there's a further 5 tracks from the same sessions released as a very limited 100 copy CDR imminently.

this isn't just some left-overs that weren't good enough to make the 'proper' album, but 5 tracks that were selected before the album was compiled, all of which i thought worthy of being heard.

you can get order a copy (available soon) from the distant noise website, their myspace, or a small number of online retailers - links below.  one track is available to hear on the distant noise myspace site

Distant Noise:

http://www.myspace.com/distantnoiserecords

http://www.distantnoiserecords.co.uk

Other stockists:

www.normanrecords.com

www.smallfish.co.uk

When the Leaves Fall Like Snow is still available from www.yellow6.com, www.makeminemusic.co.uk and all good (and some bad) retailers

Also, if you or anyone you know puts on gigs and may fancy having Y6 play, i'm currently looking to do some live work so please get in touch - midlands / south in UK preferred but anything considered :-)

cheers

jon.

Update 22 February 2008

Firstly, here is the news mailout from yesterday…. And them some info on the new album…

Hi

I hope you are having a good 2008 so far.

If you are, Y6 is about to make it even better... if not, don't worry help is at hand.  Clinically proven to aid relaxation, Yellow6 is back with a new album.

So, it is called "When The Leaves Fall Like Snow" and is a double CD of recordings made in Stockholm in late 2007.  Quite minimal in some ways, not in others.

The album is currently being manufactured and will be available in the shops in April 2008, but direct from Yellow6 and Make Mine Music as soon as copies are back from the plant.

Disc 1 is 6 long tracks, each over 10 minutes... Disc 2 is the shorter ones, tho not by a lot.  A few tasters will be available on the MySpace page any day now (maybe even tonight).  More info will appear on the website along with sleeve art etc. in the next week or so.  An edited track will appear on the next Wire Tapper cover mount cd.

Any promo requests, please email me...

Aside from that, for those in or around London over Easter, Yellow6 are playing the Distant Noise RoTa gig on Saturday 22nd March at Notting Hill Arts Centre, Notting Hill Gate.  Also playing are Televise, Winterlight and Luga.  Free entry and it's on from 4-8 pm... time for lunch before and dinner after.

Following on from this (a while later), Distant Noise will be releasing a 5 track 40 minute cdr by Yellow6  titled "STHLM" in their 12 cdr series, one per month for the year... mine is #6 of course (June) and is more of the material recorded in the highly productive time in Sweden.

last but by no means least, some other projects:

iamstringsthatrembleunderabow - my collaboration with Dirk Serries which will be released on vinyl by Equation in the summer.  check the MySpace page

Council Flat (collaboration with Charles Wyatt) will be recording an album at some point which is destined for release by Music Fellowship at some future time.

I have also joined the Crippled Black Phoenix family... although unfortunately I won't be playing on their European tour in April, I hope to get to play live with them later in the year, and have recorded a few smatterings of guitar for their forthcoming (and totally excellent) double CD to be released by Invada in a few months.

more soon, in the meantime, happy spring

Born out of the isolation of 6 weeks spent in a foreign city, this album is pretty minimal compared to previous releases, but not minimalist… there are some edits of tracks available on the Y6 myspace page for you to download. As tasters:  www.myspace.com/jonyellow6

And here’s a small version of the front and back sleeves… the discs will come in a card digisleeve.

Update 13 February 2008

Hi people… there's lots going on around now and i guess you might like to know some of it so you can get all excited in anticipation...

so... things to be released:

the new 2CD album "When The Leaves Fall Like Snow" will be released on Make Mine Music in the next few months (probably April).  just completing the mastering and sorting out the packaging etc.  It's a mammoth listen with 2 full CDs each over 70 minutes long - those people at the silent ballet are gonna love it :-)

anyhow - it was recorded in Stockholm in Fall 2007, the product of 6 weeks relative isolation in a foreign country.  A taster track (severly edited from it's original 8+ minutes to 4 mins) will be on the Wire cover mount CD with the April edition (out 13th March)

also a product of this fertile period is the forthcoming cdr release in the distant Noise 2008 series.  Mine is #6 (of course) and is a 5 track 40 minute collection entitled STHLM.

also coming along this year will be:

iamstringsthatrembleunderabow - my collaboration with Dirk Serries which will be released on vinyl by Equation in the summer.

Council Flat (collaboration with Charles Wyatt) will be recording an album at some point which is destined for release by Music Fellowship at some future time.

i have also joined the Crippled Black Phoenix family... although unfortunately i won't be playing on their european tour in april, i hope to get to play live with them later in the year, and have recorded a few smatterings of guitar for their forthcoming (and totally excellent) double CD to be released by Invada in a few months.

last but not least, i have a gig (yes - one gig) in London on 22nd March (easter weekend) and it's free... Notting Hill Arts Centre, Notting Hill Gate  running from 4-8 pm with Televise, Winterlight, Yellow6 and Luga

that's all for now.. more news when it happens (if not before)

jon.

Weds 26 Dec 07

Ok, year end round up time… these things must be done if only to make me think back to what the hell has happened to the last year…

So… it’s been a busy time with two album length releases plus a few compilations and stuff.  Some entertaining moments at gigs… the first (Paris) and last (Bristol) of the year being the most enjoyable for me.  Bristol particularly amusing in some ways as the audience had come for the Dreamboat Records Christmas party and were ready to rock… and Yellow6 came on first.  During the first song 90% of the audience quietly left the room to go back to the bar leaving an appreciative few who mainly managed to make it for the entire 40 minutes without falling over or asleep (congratulations and thank you).  The Parisians were incredibly friendly and hospitable… inbetween there were a couple of awful gigs (Ii.e. no-one came) at the Slaughtered Lamb in london, and in Luton, saved by some of the other artists (Rothko, Rameses III) and the fact that a teenage hero, Spon – the former UK Decay guitarist – was doing the live sound in Luton.  Have to admit, at times you start to wonder why you bother, but bother you still do… also played in Brooklyn with Council Flat, my new project with Charles Wyatt.  Along with the Council Flat collaboration, I recorded new music with LAM, Fear Falls Burning and Dave Collingwood.  The track with Dave is on the Dreamboat comp under the name of White Noise Masking and the FFB collaboration is scheduled for 2008 release by Equation records under the name of ‘iamstringsthatrembleunderabow’.

Release wise there was my first (and last) release for Resonant, a label I have long admired.  Plus other releases on Unlabel, Chat Blanc, Dreamboat, Darla, MMM and Fugues.

I also went to some fine gigs by other people, bought some great cds (yes, I BUY music!!!) and rediscovered some others long unplayed… I also spent 6 weeks working in Stockholm where I got to record loads of new material which will see the light of day in 2008…

So here goes with some lists of releases, gigs, favourite listening etc.:

Releases:

Painted Sky (Resonant)

Ion-e (Unlabel)

Vert:resultat (chat blanc)

Little darla has a treat for you (Darla)

MMM digital compilation (Boomkat)

Digital re-issues (MMM and others, from Boomkat)

Dreamboat 2008 (dreamboat)

Merry6mas2007 (MMM)

Fugues cdr

Here’s my top listens of the year…. In no particular order

Stars Of The Lid - And Their Refinement of The Decline
Earth - Hibernaculum
Rickie Lee Jones - The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard
Sophia - Technology Won't Save Us
Cowboy Junkies - At The End Of Paths Taken
Crippled Black Phoenix - Love of Shared Disasters
David Lynch & Angelo Badalamenti - Music From Twin Peaks Volume 2
Deepchord Presents: Echospace - The Coldest Season
Low - Drums and Guns
Grails - Burning Off Impurities
Kiln - Dusker
Mono - Gone
Spokane - Little Hours
Fear Falls Burning - Once We All Walk Through Solid Objects
Philip Glass - Solo Piano
Joy Division - Reissues

And Live -
Lou Reed - Berlin (truly amazing)
Low - Nottingham
Cowboy Junkies - Nottingham

And so to 2008…so far planned are a cdr album on Distant Noise recordings and a double cd on Make Mine Music, both made up of the Stockholm recordings.  Live – who knows… after this years efforts I’m not going to be hunting down opportunities to play to no-one, but of course will entertain any offers!  Aside from these releases, it is the 10th anniversary of my debut release so I may choose to celebrate that in some way, and it will also be the 10th merry6mas cdr so if anyone has any ideas for something special to mark this occasion (I was thinking an mp3 cd of the previous 9 years as part of a double cd package)… suggestions welcomed.

Thanks again to everyone who has supported Y6 in any way in 2007, and a happy 2008.

what are you waiting for – it’s nearly 6mas J

……………………..

Thursday 08 November 2007

Some news and things…. Just returned from 6 weeks working in the beautiful city of Stockholm which was excellent – and inspiring as I have recorded about 3 hours worth of new music which will most likely trickle out in the near future – in a non-radiohead style I’m guessing…

Anyhow, on to the news…

Hej!

Where to start… I guess new and up coming releases is a good one…

Out now:  Little Darla Has A Treat For You v25 – Endless summer 2007-08

Out November 12th is the Dreamboat records 2008 sampler

Includes new and exclusive yellow6 song ‘L#2’ and a track by White Noise Masking, a new collaboration between Dave Collingwood (Dreamboat / Gravenhurst / Azalea City Penis Club) and Jon Attwood (yellow6).

Also includes Robin Allender, Gala Band, Rollercoaster Project.  Available on the Gravenhurst tour, from Dreamboat, Bleep, iTunes and I should get a few…

Last but certainly not least… merry6mas2007 is almost upon us and should be available late November/early December..  This years offering will have packaging yet to be determined (but most likely something minimal, diy and arty with sticky backed plastic and cornflake packets or something… the last bit is probably not true in case this affects your decision to purchase… or not)

So – the most important thing is the music and, subject to final confirmation, the track list will be:

Burning holes in the sky  (y6 2007 – unreleased)

Diamond  (y6 2007 – unreleased)

In some other  (y6 2007 – unreleased)

Sunday 21 January 2007

Hello and a slightly belated welcome to 2007.  the holidays were a busy and creative time here and there’s some new releases headed your way in the first few months of 2007…

Due on 5th March is the new full length album Painted Sky, released by the wonderful Resonant Label.  Full details will be added here and on the Resonant website (and MySpace) soon…

Before that hits the stores, there will be two cdr releases.

One is a 40 min cdr titled ‘ion-e’ which will be the final part in the Unlabel series 52.  There will be 100 numbered copies available from Unlabel (and Norman Records).  ion-e was written and recorded in about 6 hours on Sunday 14 January 2007 with a couple of overdubs added the following day.

The other is a split 3” cdr on Chat Blanc of Montreal, Canada.  It is titled “vert:resultat” and is a split with Montreal’s Boreal.  The Yellow6 tracks are titled ‘winter’ and ‘green’ totalling 11 mins and were recorded over the Christmas holiday at the end of 2006.

As for Painted Sky, here’s a sneak preview of the sleeve and track list.  There are songs available to hear on the Yellow6 and Resonant MySpace pages.
